Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI Technologies Inc. is initiating a search for Construction Inspection Specialists in various skilled trades groups shown below for inspecting definable features of work in our Hampton Roads and Richmond region to oversee construction inspection of building and bridge activities for owners and general contractors . Special Inspection groups include:

    Structural Steel and Bolting Buildings or Bridges
  • Structural Welding Inspections; CWI and NDT Level II MT, UT, VT Bridges or Buildings
  • Reinforced Concrete
  • Structural Masonry
  • Soils and Aggregates
  • Fire Protection and Life Safety
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Underground Utilities and Fiber Optic Installation
  • Transportation Construction Inspection - Highway Construction Inspection

Responsible for construction oversight of specific special inspection groups. Reviews and audits of the construction work and write detailed inspection reports with photos and check lists as may be required. Tasks expected to include following for the specialized inspections noted above.

  • Work independently, with minimal or no managerial oversight, to observe construction-related activities.
  • Have and exhibit a strong sense, understanding, and knowledge of construction-related activities means and methods, building materials, heavy equipment and systems, applicable reference documents, Code compliance, and construction jobsite safety
  • Perform field inspection and construction observation efforts
  • Supports the Quality Control Manager/CQC Manager in managing oversight of construction activities and definable features of work for compliance.
  • Read and understand plans/specifications, shop drawings. design changes, work plans, and RFls
  • Manage and track correspondence such as RFI's, submittals, test reports, contract documents and references,
  • Engages Contractor representatives to be aware of ongoing and planned work activities
  • Identify quality construction, and production issues at multiple locations and Engages Contractor representatives to be aware of issues, deficiencies and non-conformance
  • Prepare and review inspection reports for completeness with comments, photos, and checklists
  • Track and document quality. Construction and schedule issues and assist with issues resolution
  • Track and document contract quantities, changes, and delays and QAQC processes
  • Provides technical assistance to more junior inspector
  • Interact with contractors and clients in a confident and professional manner
  • Special Inspectors require professional licensure or certifications such as International Code Council (ICC) chapter 17, National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), American Welding Society (AWS), American Concrete Institute (ACI), other comparable State Certifications such journeyman or master trades licenses required; or candidate is experienced and capable of attaining certification by test for the specialty inspections noted above
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of 5 - 9 years of experience.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations
  • Evaluates staff performance and provides input to project management staff
  • Identifies training requirements and arranges for staff training
  • Supervises onsite team
  • Accurately records and reports daily forms per project requirements
  • Communicates effectively with client, contractor, staff, and supervisor
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Proactively resolves problems at the lowest level
  • Adheres to project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Reviews all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting
  • Submits accurate time sheets, mileage and expense reports on time each week
  • Reviews jobsite safety daily and takes immediate action to document and resolve issues
  • Understands OSHA Safety Standards and KCI corporate policies and follows them at all times
  • Has the specific knowledge to perform all duties
  • Maintains all required certifications and participates in training courses as required
  • Understands all applicable industry standards for project and performs all tasks per standards and client requirements
