Responsibilities

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers intensive residential treatment services within a secure setting. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth ages 7- 17 who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric and educational difficulties. In addition to our general psychiatric programs, we also offer specialty programs for youth with more serious challenges. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE-approved and certified facility.

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center is seeking a Recreation Therapist to join our team. The position does require therapist to work hours in the evening and on weekends.

Position Scope:

  • Plans, implements and evaluates activity therapy programs; selects, places, and evaluates staff; provides periodic budgets, statistical summaries, forecasts and goals; Hires and provides training/staff development activities.
  • Provides leadership and direction to Program and staff ensuring compliance with accrediting and regulatory requirements; develops policies, procedures, new programs, budgets, etc.
  • As part of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, provides a wide variety of activity therapy programs and services designed to improve the social, physical and cognitive functional behavior of patients. These may include recreation therapy, music therapy and art therapy.
  • Will assist with assessment procedures, development of a related program strategy and monitoring and evaluating patient outcomes.
  • Interacts with medical, nursing and program staff.
  • Provides patient and department documentation.
  • Promotes company philosophies, generates team spirit, and creates and maintains an environment that fosters employee/customer satisfaction and maximizes productivity and profitability.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Minimum requirement is graduate of accredited college/university with Bachelor degree in Recreation Therapy or related field; masters preferred Three to five years experience in residential setting. One to two years supervision/management experience. Demonstrated education and/or experience working with adolescents.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current CTRS required
  • CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Management Certification
  • Current valid driver's license

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Stand, walk, kneel and reach while working with students for approximately 80-90% of the day. Use the full range of body motion including handling and physically restraining students when necessary. Perform First Aid and CPR. May require physical exertion for recreational activities. Must possess physical ability to assist restraining residents under such circumstances. Must be able to operate 15 passenger van.
